On February 9, 2022, a group of five students, called the False Advertising Team, launched their campaign to creatively inform people about the impact of false advertising, its impact on society, and what it can cause, and to allow them to imagine what could happen. As part of their work as students in the Department of Mass Communication, they did three events under the name "False Advertising".

 

The False Advertising team conducted three events to achieve their goal of raising awareness among school and university students. The first event was held on February 24, 2022 under the name "False Advertising Forum". The forum was held online in the Zoom program, and a large number of audiences joined the forum, such as school students, UAE University students, and many mothers with their young children. The "False Advertising Forum" received 20 comments from UAE University students and mothers participating with their children.

 

The second event was on March 9, 2022 under the name Main False Advertising. The False Advertising team participated in the UAE University Student Festival to spread awareness and inform them more about the importance of being wary of fake advertisements. The event was a great success and with a distance due to the covid 19 pandemic, as well as some small activities, games and rewards in association with 3 cafes, Coffee Rain, Coffee XO and Coffee Wink on free coffee and free ice cream. There was a large number of attendees, including the University Committee, Vice President of the UAE University, Dr. Ghaleb Al-Hadrami, Dr. Ahmed Al-Mansoori, Dr. Shujun, and students of the United Arab Emirates University.

 

The third event was on 3/25/2022 under the title of the memes poster contest. The distance of the best funny memes poster containing memes about expectations versus the truth of false advertising has been announced, and in cooperation with XO Café, the winners will get free coffee from them, 12 students participated in this event.
As an assessment of the events, the False advertising team distributed opinion polls to students and the results showed that many did not have any knowledge of the impact of false advertising, and its impact on society.

 

In the end, the objectives of this campaign were achieved, which is to spread awareness and inform students of the United Arab Emirates University and school students about the importance of beingware of false advertising to know their impact on society and all groups. To enhance thinking skills and help raise awareness. Finally, they achieved their main goal of informing people about the impact of false advertising.
